The lake cabin was more than just a house; it was a living scrapbook of family memories. But while it held the past, this 1980s prefab home — shipped in two bolted-together pieces — wasn't built for the future. Perched on a hill with a magnificent lake view, the cabin’s interior felt dark, dated, and frustratingly closed off.

Our client, who inherited the home, had a single, powerful goal: to bring the beauty of the outdoors in and give this cherished place a vibrant new life.

A Vision of Light & Drama

Our design challenge was to find a solution as bold as the view itself. After exploring countless options, we made a dramatic decision: we would remove the entire roof from half the house. This was the key to unlocking the home's potential.

In its place, we installed a breathtaking 14-foot wall of windows that completely opened the lakeside of the house. This single change transformed the main living and kitchen area from a dim, dated space into a dramatic, light-filled room anchored by a brand-new fireplace.

A Home Remodel Filled With Energy

With the new bones in place, we turned to giving the cabin a personality that matched its energetic new feel. The client’s love of vibrant, energetic color became the guiding principle for every design choice.

We brought this to life through stunningly vibrant kitchen cabinets, unique and beautiful tile selections, and bold wallpaper and accent walls that gave each room a distinct, lively personality.

Exterior Upgrades to Tie It All Together

The transformation extended to the exterior as well. We gave the home all-new siding and windows, and a maintenance-free deck replaced the old one.

We even updated the detached garage, giving it new siding to match the house and painting its door a striking yellow — a bright accent that matched the front door and tied the whole look together.

The finished cabin is a testament to what's possible when you honor the past while building for the future. The once-dull house is now a sun-filled, open, and uniquely energetic space that finally lives up to its stunning lakeside setting, ready for generations of new memories.
